Some brands decide to change their BJJ Gi supplier for a reason.
Maybe the lead time from the current supplier is getting longer, the MOQ no longer works, communication has become slower, or the product development can no longer keep up with the brand’s needs.
Finding a new factory may look like the next step to solve the problem. But once sampling starts, many new questions can appear.
Because a new supplier will not be exactly the same as your previous supplier.
Every factory has its own sizing system, fit, fabric feel, shrinkage control, stitching methods, and production standards.
If you have worked with the same supplier for many years, you will naturally get used to their way of making products.
Their A2 has a certain size. Their fabric has a certain feel. Their pants have a certain fit. Their collar has a certain stiffness. Over time, all these details can become your standard.
So when you change suppliers, one common problem can happen:
As soon as the new sample feels different from the old product, it is easy to think something is wrong.
But if you really want to change suppliers, the more important question is:
Are you ready to accept some changes?
If every detail has to be exactly the same as before, the new cooperation can become very difficult.
Changing suppliers usually needs a period of adjustment.
When the first sample is made, it should not only be judged by whether it looks or feels the same as the old product. A more practical way is to see where the differences are, which details need to be adjusted, and which differences can be accepted.
Then the next sample can move closer to what you really want.
For custom BJJ Gi, private label BJJ gear, or OEM fightwear production, a stable working relationship is not always perfect from the first sample.
It is usually built through sampling, adjustments, and bulk production.
So before changing your BJJ Gi supplier, it is worth asking yourself one question:
Are you ready to build a new production standard, or are you just looking for a factory to copy your old supplier?
If you are ready to accept this adjustment process, changing suppliers will be much smoother.
If you are not ready, the first sample can easily become a problem simply because every detail feels “different from before”, and the new cooperation may become difficult to continue.
